The best Ultimate Superhero dream team

It’s the year 2079 and the world as we know it is no more.

Human beings have ceased to exist. We were replaced by a race of advanced mutants each armed with a genetically determined superpower. It is now a world that the great Magneto had envisioned, with mutants living in peace and prosperity. And you are a such a mutant.

In this advanced civilization, Ultimate Frisbee has become the only professional sport due to its clear superiority over all other sports. It is played by everyone, and in every corner of the world where the legal marijuana plants can be found. It is indeed an odd coincidence.

Despite your best efforts, you managed to just barely graduate from Mutant University, leaving you with no employment opportunities. But luck shines and you. Your rich uncle who you’ve never met has just passed away leaving no one to manage the professional Ultimate Frisbee team he owns. The job is now yours, and the pay ain’t bad either.

Due to another strange coincidence, every one of the former players became a free agent this year and has decided to sign with other clubs. You can recruit any 7 superheros to play for your team. Who do you choose?

choices, choices

Here are the rules and limitation for the World Ultimate Frisbee League

1. The players you choose must have at one time been, or is currently a superhero in a comic, cartoon, or movie. Villains are not allowed, at least for this league. Deceased superheros may be resurrected for the purpose of this game.

2. Each superhero may only choose one superpower to use during the entirety of the game. At no point may any player use multiple powers or a combination of powers. Example: Superman may fly, but he cannot use his laser eyes. Speed and strength are not considered super powers.

Restricted powers: Teleportation, invisibility, stopping time, and mind control. These powers may be used only with the agreement of the opposing captain.

3. If the superhero does not have superpowers (batman) s/he may choose one and only one weapon or tool to use. Superheros with superpowers may not use weapons or tools, however, they may forgo using their superpower for the ability to use a weapon or tool.

4. Powers may not be used to injure or kill opposing players. Powers may also not be used to remove opposing players from play. Such actions will result in automatic forfeit of the game. Inhibiting opposing players from play is allowed, e.g. freezing, binding, disorienting.

5. The disc to be used is the standard 175 gram Discraft Ultrastar. The disc may not be destroyed during game play. Destruction of the disc counts as an automatic score for the opposing team.

6. The field is an expanded Ultimate Frisbee field. 300 yards long, 120 yards wide, with 2 30 yard deep end zones. The field may not be altered or destroyed in any way, such actions will result in automatic forfeit.

7. UPA 10th edition rules will apply. 2 observers will be present to settle any disputed calls. The observers may not be harmed or mind controlled, although they can be seduced.

Now choose your team!

The superhero draft

Your first match will be against the reigning world champions the United Alliance, and this is who they have.

Coach – Professor X. He’ll know what you and your team is thinking before you realize it yourself.

1. Superman, Deep threat – Super fast, super strong, can fly, has laser and x-ray vision, literally has too many powers to list.

2. Captain America, handler- The dude is a natural with a disc. He is the primary handler/puller/hucker of the team.

3. Mr. Fantastic, defender – The best defender you could face. He can get d blocks like a mother*&$ker.

4. Jean Grey, all around/disc manipulation – Telekinesis, nuff said. Could destroy the world if she gets mad and becomes Phoenix, so don’t get her mad.

5. Storm, defender/disc manipulation – Wind makes throws difficult, now how bout a tornado? Watch out for lighting bolts.

6. Flash, popper – The fastest thing on two feet.

7. The Haitian (Heroes), defender against powersThe Ultimate defense, can take away the powers of your entire team. Downside is, his team loses their powers too.

This team has speed (Superman, Flash), handling ability (Captain America), defense (Mr. Fantastic, the Haitian), and environmental control (Storm, Jean Grey). It will be very tough if not impossible to beat this team under the given restrictions. So give it your best shot.

You must choose a coach, and 7 players who can defeat this team. Choose a strategy that will neutralize their advantages and leverage your advantages. Prepare a plan of attack. Good luck.

Let the creative juices flow, and let’s get ready to rumbllllllllllLLLLLLLLLLLLEEEEEEEEE!!! Superhero style.

    5. The disc to be used is the standard 175 gram Discraft Ultrastar. The disc may not be destroyed during game play. Destruction of the disc counts as an automatic score for the opposing team.

HILARIOUS BLOG! hahaha Keep em coming Andy!

    Coach:
Vril Dox II: Commander-In Chief of L.E.G.I.O.N, he possesses 12th level intelligence and is a cunning strategist. He is ruthless and quite Machiavellian in his strategies. In a game like this, who else can better lead the team to victory? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vril_Dox_II

    Players:
    1. Martian Manhunter: Threat. Natural strength, speed and endurance. He is a shapeshifter, which is a good offensive and defensive ability. His shapeshifting is not limited to assuming any form but he can also elasticise his body like Mr. Fantastic. If necessary he can also coordinate the team strategy using his telepathic abilities, which is to say at part with Prof. X. He is not human thus might not be affected by the Haitian. Oh, did I mention that he can also turn invisible and intangible? Need to know more? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Martian_Manhunter

    2. Green Lantern (Kyle Rayner): Defender / All Around. He is the most imaginative of the Green Lantern Corps. Since their ring’s ability is to create anything they can imagine, that is a great advantage to the game. He can create contsructs such as a battle mech for the match while making another one that can either increase their offensive or defensive capabilities. In short, since the ring’s power is in creating constructs, I believe that he can circumvent the “one power” rule because he’ll be able to use his ring in a variety of way. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kyle_Rayner

    3. Wonder Woman: Handler. Her natural speed and strength also rivals that of Superman’s. She has also been trained by the Amazons and is a superior warrior, strategist and athlete (Amazons=Greek = Olympics = Discuss Throwing). She is a natural thrower and this can be proven by her ability to utilize her tiara as a throwing weapon akin to Cap’s shield in combat. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wonder_Woman

    4. Longshot: Popper. His ability is to alter the probability field around him, be it consciously or subconsciously, giving him incredible luck. He is also a superior acrobat and gymnast and is proficient in the art of throwing (his weapon of choice is a cleaver like blades). He also posseses increased speed (though not as fast as Flash, perhaps just similar to Gambit’s. His natural charisma will also render the opposite sex to be attracted to him and might distract them from the game play. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Longshot

    5. Invisible Woman: Defender, Disc Manipulation. How else to block an enemy attack but by creating an invisible force field? She can also render the disc invisible to make it difficult to detect. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Invisible_Woman

    6. Power Girl: Threat. Imagine a female version of Superman. Imagine that and her natural ability to distract anyone with her physical appearance. (Check: http://i82.photobucket.com/albums/j255/fairygrl_2006/powergirl.jpg or http://www.innocentbystander.org/blog/wp-content/uploads/2009/06/power_girl_2.jpg or http://www.cleavelin.net/archives001/pgbust.jpg) Need I say more?

    7. Princess Projectra aka Sensor Girl: All around. Ability to project an illusion is a big advantage in this kind of game. 😀 http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Projectra

Nice selections! It seems you’ve chosen quite a seductive sexy team. Will definitely be a fun match to watch.

I hadn’t thought of how the Haitian would affect non-humans, good point. Green Lantern is a great pick, the ring does bypass the rule of one power/one weapon.

Good thing you didn’t use any kryptonite!

      Thanks for the comment!

No problem. I found the selection you made to be quite a formidable team, so I created a well-rounded team that can handle them. My team’s being somewhat seductive was unintentional…well, most heroes are somewhat sexy, be they male or female, yes? 😀

        December 26, 2009 at 11:57 am

Haha I did have first pick so I had plenty of good choices. I must admit I did not know most of the heroes you chose, but they do seem quite formidable as well.

It would really be interesting to think about how their powers can combine with each other or go against each other. And even more fun to think about all the effects those seductive powers can have.

    Piece of cake:

Coach: Infinity. He’s quite literally infinite in everything. This guy exists everywhere, simultaneously, and can change the universe around him. Try coaching against everything. You can’t.

    1. Mister Majestic: All-around threat. Dude’s like Superman, but better and from Earth. All you need to do is slip a little Kryptonite onto the field and he’s the best superhero ever, no contest. Even without the Kryptonite, he’s still the man. Look him up.

    2. Dr. Manhattan: All-around threat. Read/seen Watchmen? He’s that giant blue dude that is essentially a god. He’s not using powers, he just knows exactly what will happen and how it will happen, and can change anything in time.

    3. Silver Surfer: Speedster. Think the Flash is fast? This guy goes intergalactic in a matter of seconds. Oh and that whole ability to manipulate everything around him? I guess that’s pretty good too.

    4. Leech: Power defender. Aw, all of your superheroes lost their superpowers? Too bad, it’s Leech’s fault. The Haitian has nothing on Leech.

    5. Alex Power: defender. Yeah it’s hard to throw in a tornado (against Storm). It’s even harder when the disc is immovable. His controlling of gravity can make the disc weigh infinity. Superman’s strong and all, but not infinitely strong.

    6. Maxima: Disc manipulation. If you think Jean Gray is good at telekinesis, think again. Try moving around Superman and being able to withstand blows from Doomsday himself. This girl is the epitome of power.

    7. Venom: Handler/defender. Spiderman, but much much better. As both as handler and premier endzone defender. Your fakes are nothing compared to his, as he can hold on to the disc and websling it 300 yards. And if you knock it down, it’s a strip. Trying to get by him, good luck getting past his webslinging in the endzone. What happens when he just puts a giant wall of web up by the endzone (or just around you)? You’re screwed.

And in case you do kill/maim any of them (it’s hard for most of them), a bench:
Coach: Sage (Smartest thing ever, look her up)
Backup 1: Franklin Richards (reality distortion)
    B2: Doctor Fate (Telekinesis)
B3: Plastic Man (Mr. Fantastic, but oh-so-much better)
B4: Quicksilver (Better version of the Flash)
B5: Argent (Green Lantern but better, and with silver which looks cooler)
B6: Petra (She can control anything form the earth [i.e. a disc] however she wants)
B7: Northstar (Think Flash + Jean Grey)

Haha, I think you’ve picked a pretty kick ass team. I don’t know that much about them but from your description they seem pretty awesome.

The funny thing about this contest is almost anyone can come up with a combination to beat any other team.

      Thanks for the comment!

      January 15, 2010 at 3:22 pm

Ok I gotta counter some of those arguments

Coach : Franklin Reed. Infinity might know it all, but Franklin can do it all. Things aren’t going well in this universe, easy. Create a new universe. (Know you had him as a back-up, but

      1) Batman : defensive threat. This one is gonna get heckled, but it’s ok. It’s been proven before, in a fight with all of the superheroes in the Justice League (best in the DC universe) Batman will win. Dude can figure out ANYBODY’S weakness and exploit it. And while other teams have a power-negator, they themselves are superheroes and thus subject to Batman’s detective superiority.

      2) Captain Marvel : All around. Had to counter Superman and Mister Majestic with someone on the same level. He once lifted up South America (yeah, the whole continent.)

      3) The Flash : Popper. Silver surfer is fast, but still not as fast as Flash. The Flash is so fast, he exists in multiple dimensions simultaneously. Cartoons of the Flash grossly underestimate his speed.(Can’t believe you this Quicksilver is better than the Flash. Not even close.)

      4) Captain America : Handler. Let face it, he’s got the most experience with a disc-like object and he NEVER gives up. Who can you rely on more when playing the Buzz Bullets?

      5) Hawkeye : Handler. Now this one is an interesting selection. I chose him both because he is deadly accurate and because if anyone can come up with trick throws to fool a defense, it’s this guy. The only guy on par with Hawk-eye is his teacher, named Trick Shot, be he is older and has terrible stamina. Plus many lists were missing a second handler, so I threw him in there.

      6) Spectre : All-around. Most powerful known being in the universe. Capable of virtually any feat, and when he can’t do it, he uses the Ring of Life to be able to do it. Can’t argue with that…

      7) Misfit : Cutter. The most powerful teleporter in known existence. Able to disappear and reappear anywhere without having to know the layout of her destination (take that Nightcrawler) A little communication and a well-put disc and she will be there.

      • Andy Huang
        January 15, 2010 at 3:27 pm

Definitely some interesting choices. I really should put these selections on another page and have people vote on them. Right now the possibilities are endless and there is no way of knowing which one of these teams will actually win.

But I know I’d pay a lot of money to watch a game like this.

        Thanks for the comment!

Having all that mental power is nice and all, but you still got to catch and throw. Thinking the disc to the reciever ain’t gonna cut it. For most of these teams it really comes down to who can make The Flash (fastest guy on team) come under or prevent the big put when he gets free away. This team combines grit with amazing skill and athleticism.

Coach: Dr. Doom… He would keep the other coach occupied…

    1. Handler: Bulls-eye. Pinpoint accuracy with any throw. Absolute asshole, but great teammate. Ultra gritty, defensive leader. Hates getting scored on. You will want observers, and he will still get his.

    2. Handler: Thor. Huge Hammer. Huge. Brings the thunder with big hucks from either side. Surprising deep threat, excellent cutter to maintain flow or possession.

    3. Handler: Gambit. Flat throws for huge gainers with no effort. Incredible pace on all throws. Hucks not quite as big as Thor, but still can put it. Amazingly crafty thrower; knows when the impossible shot will be possible. Excellent on-field strategist. Usually wins the party, always wins the poker game at the party.

    4. Popper: The Incredible Hulk. Amazing Leaping ability. Impossible to get around. Underrated thrower, rarely takes chances with the disc. Smart player working with a lot of emotion. Don’t piss him off.

    5. Cutter: Flash. Unstoppable deep or under. Works the give/go well with Bulls-eye. Great handler defender. Often gets blocks on the receiver when he is on the thrower.

    6. Cutter: Wolverine. Incredible stamina. Never tires. Faster than you would think. Bids for anything with no regard for injury. Will outwork you on O or D.

    7. Popper/Cutter: Nightcrawler. Circus catches are the norm for this athlete. Jump over some one, Nightcrawler will teleport through them. Try that Kitterage. Limited catching options given hands, but uncanny anticipation allows easy catches in zone or man sets. Tail allows for amazing drag catches others can’t reach.

I guess even in a game with superheroes, speed is still a huge advantage. I do wonder how a team of 7 speedsters would do against 7 reality manipulators. Would be fun to watch.

  6. John
    January 16, 2010 at 2:36 am

Picking someone like Captain America on the basis that he’d be a great handler is throwing away a pick. If you’re doing it right, you won’t need anyone to throw at all. For example if you have Jean Grey (or other telekinetic), why would anyone *throw* the disc? The second after it left anyone on the field’s hand, she would just telekinetically control it directly into the waiting hands of someone in your endzone. What use is Storm whipping up a hurricane against a telekinetically controlled disc? Or if you had Superman, he would just start flying (from in bounds) grab the disc an inch out of the thrower’s hand, fly to the endzone and land, goal. Reed Richard’s stretchiness isn’t going to be any use against that.

Anyway, since you’re allowing “inhibition” of the other team with powers, it would really come down to a reality manipulation dick-waving contest. There are heroes out there that can basically do anything they can think of. It’s too impossible to really pick without putting a billion restrictions on powers and actions.

I think the Hatian/Leech idea is actually the best. Equip your team with a bunch of super-athletes/giants and them, so that when you face the opposing team in a no-power battle, you have a massive advantage.

I think a better exercise would be, pick 7 humans, anyone that has ever lived, and make the best possible ultimate team. Then you’re not dealing with super-power one-upsmanship, where you can just claim a counter to any action the opposing team ever makes, just real attributes.

    • Andy Huang
      January 16, 2010 at 12:10 pm

You’re right, I was making my picks cause I’d want to watch these heroes play a game of Ultimate. But in the end, I do think the leech/haitian combo is pretty deadly.

Eh, choosing humans isn’t as much fun.

      Thanks for the comment!

You don’t have enough prohibitions to make a best team choosable.

This three person team can beat any of the listed suggestions or at least tie 0-0:

Idris Nolan: picks up the disc and can throw the perfect one inch dump pass to->

Superman: who is floating in the air. Upon receiving the dump pass in the air, he flies to the scoring endzone and lands in the endzone.

a blue whale (or Mr. Fantastic): plays perma-defense and places (or stretches) their entire body covering the endzone they are defending. It is a foul to attempt to move them. Opposing players can never catch a disc in the endzone.

    • Andy Huang
      January 16, 2010 at 12:07 pm

That’s the fun thing about choosing superheroes, you can always choose someone who can negate or outdo another player. Maybe someone can swoop in and steal that 1 inch dump. Or blind Mr. Fantastic so he can’t play defense. The possibilities are endless.

  8. Lucas Murphy
    January 16, 2010 at 4:46 pm

Well as the list is infinite let me see what I would choose.

1.Cap. Hes my favorite and others have already said why hes awesome.

2.Silver Surfer. You got it right, that dude is fast, and I like his philosophical mojo.

    3. Human torch. Have you ever played in 110 degree waether? every body goes down a notch, imagine supernova. And he can throw, and the Surfer will still get it.

4 Iceman. Really the same as the Torch but on the other spectrum. And have you seen them team up? Untouchable chemistry.

    5. Captain Marvel. Cosmic Awareness, I have been preaching that to my team all season. Oh and he’s a power house

6.and for fun/ originiality Goku from DBZ. Everyone agrees a retardedly powerful martial artist would rock on a field, also all his powers arent power as much as techniques so him spirited bombing things is like a low release while adopting Tiene’s solar flare is like a high release.

    7. To work some sweet magic off of the Solar flare: Shijima from ninja scroll. Once solar flared everyone would cast a shadow for him to fade in and out of allowing him to make the sickest layout Ds you ever.

right guys a couple of oldies, two of my favs from the great classics 😀
Biship, although hes an oldie, hes a legend xman, he becomes a massive power
house, you all go on about fireing bolts and disks but imagine a mutant who can
absorb all forms of energy and release it from his hands in blasts. He can also
absorb it giving him measure of invulnerability and enhancing his own abilities ;).
one of the god umong godly guys and a faveroute, BLACK BOLT this dude
is a major oldie sure but he may be one of the best ever legends. He has
full matter tansformation creating force fields and what not. And have you heard
his voice? speaking triggers a massive disturbance with the world capable
of leveling a city. Hes beaten the hulk on more than one occasion. And for all
you people who mention telepathy hes resistant from his years of experience, he
cane even take over peoples mind….god right..

I’m gonna leave out “Gods,” and “Cosmic Entities,” from Marvel

Coach: Stryfe – clone to Cable. Unlike Proffesor X, Has been shown to use his psychic power to read others minds while in battle himself and used it to defeat the X-men team single handedly. Also can communicate plays telepathically.

Deep threat – Sentry. Can fly faster than light. Is super strong. Has fought the hulk to a stalemate. Stood up against Galactus by himself. If killed. Will reheal on sub-atomic level. IS a little crazy.

All-Around- Madrox the Multiple man. Can create duplicates of himself and whatever he is holding. Duplicates have same duplicating power. Who has the disk.

Handler- Long Shot- He’s a thrower who’s power is luck/”to defy probability.” He just never misses, and fate just goes his way. Good for throwing and dodging defenders.Superhuman speed, agility, reflexes, can dodge Spiderman.

Defender- Doctor Strange. Most powerful magician in marvel. Nearlt any power you can think of has a spell equivelent. Can hide goal in another dimension.

Defender- Tony Stark. Get’s the iron man suit to fly, receive super strength, Blasts from palms.

Lady Mastermind- creates illusions so convincing, Emma Frost, a psychic nearly at the level of professor X, could not only fail to see through it, but could not focus her mental powers enough to use them. Freed with help from outside psi-user. victims can be scared to death. Affects all five senses.

Emma Frost- Omega level mutant telepath. Has mind control, alter perception, Affect neuropathways to boost other mutants powers. Can switch to Diamond Body Form, to give unlimited stamina, super strength, and invulnerability.

  14. April 15, 2012 at 1:12 pm

Ok, so my team is a little weird. Ever heard of death by chocolate? Well this is death by girl power. Team Femme Fatal. Except for the coach of course.

    Coach- White Lantern Batman.
The World’s Greatest Detective, & Stratigest, with an all powerful ring that controls life. He
could learn Professer X’s plan and take him down before Xavier knew what happened. Plus, White looks amazing on the Bat.

    Offence- Artemis
Green Arrow’s protege. Great Hunter. Amazing Aim. Her Weapon IS Her Aim. Can move around people easily. Need i say more.
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tigress_%28DC_Comics%29#Young_Justice

Main Offence/Threat/Handler- Donna Troy aka Troia
Same As Wonder Woman. Flight Capablility. If it is night, then watch out because her suit can be used as stealth. Might have some trouble with the brutes(Superman, etc.), but overall just awesome.
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Donna_Troy

    Handler/Major Treat/All Around- Squirrel Girl
Ok, my favorite Superhero ever. She is not very known, or appreciated, but she can easlily take down anyone.Squrrel speed & agility, and a tail for those long catches. Have you ever caught a squirrel? I dont think so.
Wanna see who she has taken down? on her own?

    Defence/Threat-Jinx
This girl has bad luck. I bet your thinking,”Why is that good?” Because she can create bad luck for the ENTIRE OTHER TEAM in aiming. Miss, Miss, Miss, & then who is the winner? TEAM FEMME FATAL!!!!!!

Go to Teen Titans & Teen Titans Go!

    Main Defence-Argent
Argent is special. She is just like Jade, but Red Just Picture it and youll get it.
Argent appeared in the Teen Titans episode “Calling All Titans” voiced by Hynden Walch. She meets Starfire and becomes an honorary Titan, but she is soon captured by General Immortus of the Brotherhood of Evil. Argent can fire crimson energy beams, and can use that energy to form objects similar to the abilities of the Green Lantern. The Argent in this series appears to be a New Zealander rather than an American. Argent has also been shown to have an interest in fashion when she asks Starfire: “Does this come in black?” when the yellow communicator clashes with her dark clothes. When Más y Menos unfreeze all of the captured Titans during the final battle of “Titans Together”, Argent joins the fight. She is seen sending two energy beams in the form of hands after a fleeing Johnny Rancid. Later, she is seen in Titans Tower and before the “battle” against Dr. Light.
